Readme for Hotfix KB899761

Microsoft has found an issue with the final build of SQL Server 2000 SP4 that impacts customers who run SQL Server 2000 with Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) support enabled. This issue only impacts customers that meet the following requirements:

• SQL Server 2000 is running on an x86-based computer or on an x64-based computer. (This issue does not affect the Itanium (IA64) platform.)
  
  
• AWE has been enabled with more than 2GB of memory (available only with Enterprise, Developer and Evaluation editions).
  
  
• More than half of the total system memory is allocated to a single instance of the database engine. (Other SQL Server 2000 components such as Analysis Services, Reporting Services or Notification Services are not affected.)

Customers that meet these requirements should apply the hotfix KB899761 after upgrading to SQL Server 2000 SP4. You can obtain this hotfix from this Microsoft Web site. A copy of this hotfix is also included on the SQL Server 2000 SP4 CD in the \KB899761 folder. We recommend that you check KB899761 to see if a newer version of this hotfix is available.
